A First-Time Camper Mom’s Experience

Editor’s Note: The following post was written by Michelle Tanzola, a mom who sent her daughter to Pine Cove Camp in the City for the first time last summer! Check out what the experience was like for her. I am not a “hoverer” when it comes to parenting. At least, I don’t like to think of myself as one. Yes, my daughter is my only child and yes, I may be just slightly overprotective, but a hoverer? No, not me. So when the prospect of sending her to overnight camp came up several years ago, I wholeheartedly embraced rejected the […]

Merry Winterfest to All and to All a Good Night

Wow! Winterfest has come and gone and God did some amazing things. This year was the largest Winterfest ever with over 1,200 campers! From the ropes courses, all camp games, dance partys, and winterized versions of classics like Pitch Black Attack and Espionage, we hope your camper had a blast and also grew in their relationship with Christ. On top of the awesome camp activities, our Ranch, Timbers, and Shores campers spent Saturday night rocking out with Family Force 5 in concert! A couple hundred students synchronize dancing to the Wobble and Chainsaw…yes please! If you weren’t able to join […]

‘Twas the Night Before Winterfest

We’re so excited for Winterfest, we can’t be the only ones dreaming about it! In fact, here’s the story of two campers who just can’t wait to get to camp. It’s ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas… Pine Cove style. We are proud to present “Twas the Night Before Winterfest”! ‘Twas the night before Winterfest, when all through the home Campers lay sleeping, as still as a gnome. Their trunks sat all packed in the light of the moon, In hopes that the night would bring morning soon. The campers were nestled all snug in their beds While visions of skit characters danced […]

Gingerbread Houses: Guys Versus Girls

Winterfest was a blast! Maybe by now all of our campers have finally caught up on rest, because they were having so much fun over the weekend! There are several highlights that we could talk about, but let’s be honest: we know everyone just wants to know about the the Ranch Gingerbread Launch. We’ve known that guys and girls are different for a long time. But this year at the Ranch for Winterfest, the differences became even more clear. It became obvious early on that each gender was going to take a much different approach in construction, even with the […]

Britt Nicole at Camp

Pine Cove is thrilled to host Christian recording artist Britt Nicole as our special performer for Winterfest. Each year we invite an artist or band to come and perform in Tyler, Texas for the Ranch, Timbers, and Shores campers. This concert is a fun, high-energy highlight of this action-packed winter camp weekend. The concert will take place Saturday night, December 14th, and is exclusively for Winterfest campers at the Ranch, Timbers, and Shores. We want it to be small (about 300 people) so that our campers can hear not only Britt’s music, but also a little bit about what God […]

Camp is God’s Idea

When I was a kid, I went to as many church retreats and weekend camps as I could. I would jump at the opportunity to spend time with my friends away from home, hang out with the older guys who lead our group, and play sports and games with kids my age. It was a blast. But the more church weekend retreats I went on, the more I realized that they aren’t just for hanging out with friends and playing big youth group games where I might win a prize or something. The more times I went go throughout my […]

One Counselor’s Prayer for His Camper

In December every year, we have a weekend called Winterfest, which is basically a mini-week of camp during the winter. It’s a blast. The weekend is similar to a normal summer week at camp. Campers get counselors, we have skits, and we do a lot of activity classes, not to mention an awesome concert for the weekend. This past Winterfest, we had a counselor named Danger praying for one of his campers to get a free week at camp. As Danger got to know this camper throughout the weekend, he learned he had a very hard home life and didn’t […]

Twas the Night Before Winterfest

Twas the night before Winterfest, when all through the camp The Timbers staff was working; bumping the lamp The Christmas lights were hung on the cabins with care, In hopes that the campers soon would be there; The summer staff were driving from near and afar, Recovering from finals by blasting Tedashii in their car; And Guaps with his crew all ready to go, Trying to figure out a way to make it snow. When out on the dock there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my bunk to see what was the matter. Away to the field I […]
