Who Knew? A St. Patricks Day Surprise

Have you ever wondered why we celebrate today and call it “St. Patrick’s Day?” Believe it or not, there is way more to the story than wearing green head to toe and searching for the perfect four-leaf clover. Saint Patrick was an actual person, and his life is fascinating. Born in Britain, he was kidnapped around age 16 by Irish pirates, and was sold into slavery in Ireland for six years. Though enslaved, Patrick’s faith grew much stronger during this time. After finally escaping his captors, he finished school back in Britain, and then eventually moved back to Ireland as […]

Travis’s Prayer

The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. Psalm 145:18 Ask any counselor, and they will tell you just how nerve-wracking stepping into your cabin on Sunday afternoon for the first time that week can be. Questions like “what if I don’t get along with the kids”, “what if we have different interests”, and “what if they don’t listen to me” can quickly take over and consume those final steps up from the gauntlet. The devil loves to fling lies of inadequacy, doubt, and insecurity towards our sweaty, sunburned faces. […]

Camper Story: Celebrating Salvation

Opening days at Pine Cove are filled with festivities. As families are driving into camp, the college staff are cheering and jumping, welcoming the arriving campers to camp for another exciting week. No matter the circumstance, the enthusiastic staff can put a smile on the most skeptical face. This particular week at the Bluffs Family Camp, a mom shared with our staff Sunday night that her husband was tied up at work, so he would not be attending Family Camp with her and the kids. As the week progressed, the mom and her kids were having a blast. They were […]

Camp in the City at Mobberly Baptist

Pine Cove has the unique opportunity to partner with local churches through our day camp program called Camp in the City. Not only do we travel to 7 states, but we also have locations in close proximity to our headquarters in East Texas. One the churches we are privileged to do ministry with is Mobberly Baptist Church, located just east of Tyler in Longview, Texas. At Mobberly, the basis for service is founded on proclaiming Jesus Christ and making Him known. This mission is the groundwork for the outreach they do to declare the Glory of God to their community and across […]

Forge Trip: Dominican Republic

Last week, my fellow Forge students and I took a 9-day adventure to Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic. The Forge is Pine Cove’s resident discipleship program. There we joined alongside a ministry called Students International (SI) to assist local missionaries at various sites that included microfinance, social work, community health, dentistry, education, special education, sports, and physical therapy. After a long day of travel on Friday, we kicked off our week in the DR with a day of tourism. What better way to experience the beauty of La Republica Dominicana than with a rafting trip! 27 of the 29 members of the group took off for […]
