Why We Need Christmas

We love to celebrate Christmas at the Zandstra house, do you? If you were to ask your friends and families why we celebrate Christmas, you will no doubt get varying answers ranging from, “It’s a time to celebrate family” to “Santa Claus” to “Jesus’ birth.” But, I want to ask a different question… Why do we need Christmas? If you are familiar with the creation story, you know that God created a perfect place and gave mankind the unique opportunity to tend to the earth and creation. Man was deeply loved and blessed. Our Creator only asked for love and […]

Redeemed at Family Camp

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 2 Corinthians 5:17 Arriving after a long journey from their home in Pennsylvania, they drove through the Pine Cove Woods Family Camp entrance where she witnessed enthusiastic counselors jumping up and down and waving at her with a joyful fervor she had never experienced before. She was caught off-guard, to say the least. Caitlin, a teenage girl and pastor’s daughter from a loving family of four, emerged from the car donning a black skull and cross bones t-shirt—not your usual Pine […]

From Doubt to Faith

Bible Study Theme: Know

If I were to ask you, “Who do you know?”, what people would you list? Would you talk about family, friends, or just mere acquaintances? As we go down our list, we begin to realize that there are different levels of knowing people. For some people, we just know their name and maybe a few facts about them. But others, like friends and family, we could talk to for hours because we know who they are. We could share their joys, sorrows, and even embarrassing moments. Why do we know these people better than others? The reason is that we […]

Bible Study Theme: Reality

A few months ago I was sitting in a coffee shop here in Columbus, Texas working on some things for Outback. I sat back at one point and just started listening to the people around me. One of the conversations I heard was between one of the coffee shop baristas and a gentleman. The gentleman was talking about a show he watched on TV the night before and how it was a “Reality Show”. He talked about how the show was “full of lies” and “fake”, not “reality” at all. I stood up and made my way to the counter. […]
