Life Transformation On The Road

Editor’s Note: At Pine Cove we pray big prayers, and often the Lord reveals himself in the most unexpected way. Read this incredible story of what happened while we were on the road recruiting prospective summer staff this fall. One of my favorite parts of recruiting is getting to minister to college students. For some, this is more than just an interview; it could be a life-changing moment for them. Many students have never thought through the issues we ask them about and others have never been asked to explain the Gospel. Often the challenge that we give them at the end […]

Camper Story: Celebrating Salvation

Opening days at Pine Cove are filled with festivities. As families are driving into camp, the college staff are cheering and jumping, welcoming the arriving campers to camp for another exciting week. No matter the circumstance, the enthusiastic staff can put a smile on the most skeptical face. This particular week at the Bluffs Family Camp, a mom shared with our staff Sunday night that her husband was tied up at work, so he would not be attending Family Camp with her and the kids. As the week progressed, the mom and her kids were having a blast. They were […]

Universal God

We had the privilege of having a foreign exchange student as a camper at the Timbers during week 3! She is from Mexico and has been in the U.S. (Houston) for six months and will be returning back to Mexico on Monday. She and her counselor talked about her family life and how it has been a blessing to come to America because she used to be popular and a bully at her school in Mexico, but when she got here, she knew no one and she found herself on the other side of bullying. She told her counselor that […]

One Counselor’s Prayer for His Camper

In December every year, we have a weekend called Winterfest, which is basically a mini-week of camp during the winter. It’s a blast. The weekend is similar to a normal summer week at camp. Campers get counselors, we have skits, and we do a lot of activity classes, not to mention an awesome concert for the weekend. This past Winterfest, we had a counselor named Danger praying for one of his campers to get a free week at camp. As Danger got to know this camper throughout the weekend, he learned he had a very hard home life and didn’t […]

Life Transformation Before My Very Eyes

I was in my sophomore year of college at the University of Tennessee in early 2008, sitting at my little apartment desk. The past two summers I had gone to work for my parents, who had moved to Destin, Florida the week after I graduated high school. It was a great job, running errands around the coastal tourist town in slacks and a polo shirt, making decent money as an “administrative assistant” to local real estate agents. But I wasn’t sure I wanted to do it again for a third summer. I was longing for more, for an adventure on […]

From Doubt to Faith

At Pine Cove, we have a wide variety of campers from many different of backgrounds. Sometimes that is a camper who waits for Pine Cove year round and loves it more than anything, and other times it’s campers who have never been before and didn’t want to come, have disciplinary problems, have hard home lives, or just plain don’t want to hear about Jesus. Last week (week 2), we had a camper at the Timbers who told his counselor that he had some desire for relationship with Jesus, but wasn’t a Christian because he had far too much doubt. This […]

Week 1: Divine Appointments

And we know that for those who love God, all things work together for good for those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 It’s week one. First full day of summer. First full day of camp activities like meals, activity classes, clubs, and Bible Studies. As counselors bring in their cabins to teach Bible Study each morning, sometimes senior counselors get the privilege to join in and be a part of teaching and/or interacting with the counselors and campers. On this particular Monday at the Timbers, one of our senior counselors got to do Bible Study with […]
